About Brook Benten

Brook Benten, M.Ed., trains hard as a competitive runner and expert cyclist, trained under Johnny G, himself.  To counter and compliment the intense running and riding workouts, prevent injury, and home in on core strength and stability, she turns to Pilates and foam rolling.  Brook deep dived into Pilates Mat in 2003, when she achieved TheMethod Pilates Mat certification through Physical Mind Institute.  In 2015, she pursued education through Trigger Point™ on myofascial release through foam rolling.  In 2020, Brook developed the “Rock & Roll” format to combine both of these practices.  She recorded this video to help other athletes, weeked warriors, fitness enthusiasts, and otherwise tight & achy folks to restore their soft tissue and enhance overall mobility and core strength.

Resistance Loading Indoor Cycling Ride

"Resistance Loading" is a phrase coined by Johnny G, the inventor of Spinning, as a drill where the rider adds extra resistance on the bike, but maintains the same cadence.  Since the revolution-per-minute the pedals are spinning stays the same, but the tension builds, heart rate rises, as does cardiac output (HR x Stroke Volume= cardiac output).  This type of training strengthens the legs, buns, heart, and lungs.  It is also highly metabolic.  Push your limits and achieve a higher level of human performance by regular commitment to this type of high intensity/low impact training!

About Brook Benten

Brook Benten, M.Ed., is a Texas girl with a fitting signature Step move: a Cowgirl! She began teaching Step Aerobics in 1999. At the time, Step was the only class format she ever saw herself teaching. Now, lauded for her skills in multiple formats, Step still holds a near and dear place to her heart. She gets great joy out of sweating with Steppers who remember and appreciate the “good ole days” of highly choreographed routines on the musical phrase. In this 2020 video, Brook is doing her part to bring those days back!

NEW! Step: Shimmy & Pump

Some like it dancy, some like it athletic.  Step fanatics on both sides will resonate with this BRAND NEW 7-combo Step workout!  The warm-up combines floor and bench moves that will have you moving and grooving in "shimmy" fashion.  Two Step combos then follow suit, with dancy choreography.  The next three Step combos fire up the furnace with fierce athletic choreography.  The final two Step combos return to dancy choreography.  With two shimmies, three pumps, and another two shimmies, you get the best of both styles in this nearly one-hour workout!  There is no stretch chapter in the video, so be sure to stretch on your own after the workout!
