GTX RUCK
Calling outdoor enthusiasts. Come together on Thursdays for rucking (or walk/hike) followed by a strength "workout-of-the-day" using your ruck plate (or a free weight). Total workout will last up to 75-minutes.

Time & Location
Jul 07, 2022, 5:30 PM – 6:45 PM
Garey Park, 6450 Ranch to Market Rd 2243, Leander, TX 78641, USA
About the event
A ruck is a military-grade backpack, which is capable of holding a considerable amount of weight. Â Outdoor activity is the second fastest growing trend in fitness (just behind wearable tech). Â The appeal of rucking is that it's low impact, but builds muscular endurance, muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, glute strength, core strength, improves posture, and can be done anywhere! Â
These weekly sessions welcome outdoor enthusiasts to come together and enjoy conversation, breathtaking views, and get a great workout while benefiting from the unity of community.
Garey Park equestrian trails are ideal for rucking because of the elevation changes. Â The ground is very rocky and some hills are steep, so hiking boots are strongly recommended.
The equipment you'll need is a rucksack and ruck plate. Â Ruck plate weight recommendations are 10-40lbs. Â Feel free to email me at BB@BrookBenten.com if you aren't sure about what weight is right for you.
Will we allow you to join us if you don't have a ruck? Â Of course! Â Feel free to come and walk/hike. Â We do encourage you to bring a weight to use for the strength portion of the workout, after the ruck. Â The strength component will be a prescribed "WOD" designed by me, your exercise physiologist leader.
Garey Park is a fee-based park, therefore an annual membership is encouraged for participation in this group. Â If you just plan on purchasing a day pass, it holds up the line at the entrance gate. Â To make it easiest for everyone, purchase the yearly pass- and use it! Â It's truly the best, most beautiful park around.Â
So, yes, you will have to pay to enter the park, but program participation is separate, altogether.
To encourage participation, regardless of your budget, program participation is donation-based. Â I want you moving and reaping the rewards of a fit, active lifestyle. Â Donations to me for leading the hikes and designing the Workout-of-the Day, are appreciated, but not required.
Upon signing up, you will be emailed a liability waiver. Â There are risks involved, especially considering we'll be hiking in the 100-degree Texas heat. Â To certify that you are aware of those risks and voluntarily choose to participate, anyway, your John Hancock on a waiver is required.Â
Â
We will meet at The Meadow gate prior to each ruck. Â The Meadow parking lot is due north (straight ahead) of the entrance gate, about a mile down. Â You'll cross a cattle guard and the Garey House will be on your left before veering right to The Meadow parking lot.
